Mercy Pediatric Clinic in Coralville Offers Healthy Heroes Program for Kids

Tuesday, January 2, 2018

Mercy Pediatric Clinic is offering a new program called Healthy Heroes focused on childhood health and the prevention and treatment of obesity. The program is for children aged 3-17 with a body mass index (BMI) greater than the 85th percentile for their age, or with a strong family history of obesity and obesity-related health conditions.

The initial visit will include one-to-one counseling with Tori Smith, DO, Pediatrics, to discuss healthy body size, obesity-related medical conditions and necessary laboratory testing. The visit will also include one-to-one counseling with Morgan Dezorzi, registered dietician, who will focus on mindful eating and healthy food choices.

Subsequent Healthy Heroes appointments will be customized to the individual patient’s needs, stressing the importance of physical activity, behaviors and emotions and how they relate to food, portion sizes, decreasing screen time, sleep habits and more.

The Healthy Heroes program is designed to detect disease through early detection, lifestyle intervention and wellness education to improve overall health and wellness for both patients and families.

Healthy Heroes appointments will last for 30-60 minutes once per month on regularly scheduled Thursday afternoons at Mercy Pediatric Clinic, Mercy Coral West, 2769 Heartland Drive, Coralville.
